Sam and I had just gotten home from running errands and we were in the bedroom. I was sitting on the bed and heard a noise. I asked Sam if he would go and see where the noise was coming from. At first he thought it was the upstairs neighbors vacuuming but I said it sounded different. He walked out into the living room and called back to me, "Hey Honey, would you like to go swimming?" I thought he was joking until I walked out and saw water all over the floor. We opened our front closet and there was a pipe in there that had burst and there was water gushing all about. We turned off the pressure to stop the water and I immediately called our Landlord to let her know about our situation. Luckily we had been home and we found it quickly. Our Landlord sent some people over to assess the damage and they said that they needed to replace the foam underneath the carpet and they would have to air out the carpet. We had to remove all of our furniture out of the living room and our spare room which also got damaged. They said that it would take three days for it to all air out and for the foam to be replaced before we could live in it again. So luckily Sam's parents lived nearby and we were able to stay with them. Also that evening I had to pay my tuition for UVU and it was due by midnight and our internet was acting all funny. And Sam and I hadn't had dinner yet and so by the time all things settled down and we were at Sam's parents we had not gotten dinner yet and so we went to McDonald's around 10:30 pm. Below are the pictures of this adventure.
This is our hallway and where the water was.
Our living room. We were testing to see how far the water had spread.
This is where the most damage occurred and where the flood originated.
Our spare room and the water damage.
We had to pile our belongings on our bed to clear out the other rooms.
Our spare room after they had a carpet cleaner go through it to try and suck up the water.
They pulled up the carpet and the foam and brought in the fans to start airing out the carpet.
Our very crowded kitchen with our things in it.
Our couch was too large to fit into the kitchen, so they brought in some 2x4s to hoist it up and so it wouldn't get any more water damage during the drying out process.
Placing the fans and starting out the process.
Even though all of this was an inconvenience, it did give us the opportunity to move around our furniture and redecorate a bit. Sam said that was his favorite part. I think it is interesting that he takes such notice in how the furniture is placed.
